ABOUT US
About Jefferson-Lewis Eat Well Play Hard Community Projects
Our goal is to combat childhood overweight/obesity and reduce chronic disease risk by working in partnership with the community to implement environmental changes that support the Eat Well Play Hard strategies and target children ages 2-10 and their families.
There has been a Jefferson County youth survey completed in 2007. The survey was completed with high school children. The results of the survey indicated that:
- *Only 17% of 9-12 graders eat fruits and vegetables five or more times per day during the past seven days
- *27% watch three or more hours of television on average school day
- *74% of teens have a television in their bedrooms
- *56% of students are drinking whole and 2% milk which are highest in saturated fat
Because eating habits start at a young age and by high school, habits are usually well ingrained, we have used this survey to target potential problem wellness areas in the young children in both Jefferson and Lewis Counties.
